Monday is the last day for pre-registration for the youth bike clinic being held by the City of St Joseph Health Department Tuesday.
The event from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday is free, but pre-registration is required. Call (816)236-1491 to pre-register.
Officials say children of all ages are welcome and will learn how to ride a bike safely. Multiple education stations will cover topics ranging from proper safety gear to how to handle adverse road conditions. Depending on skill level, children will rotate through various stations, including:
• Helmet Fit/Bike Fit
• ABC Quick Check
• Start/Stop
• Scan/Signal
• Rock Dodge
• Weave
• Quick Turn
• Emergency Stop
• Intersection Practice
A parent or guardian must register each child and sign a waiver. Bikes will be available for use during the clinic or children are welcome to bring their own. Each participant will receive a free bike helmet and drawings will be held for safety gear and a new bicycle.
This Spring Break Bike Clinic is sponsored by the City of St. Joseph Health Department in partnership with the St. Joseph Health and Safety Council, St. Joseph Youth Alliance, the City of St. Joseph, and Live Well St. Joe. Bicycling instructor services are being provided by Bike Walk KC and the League Cycling Instructors of St. Joseph.
This project is supported by a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant.
