Emil Johnson waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday to charges stemming from a standoff at his home last month. Johnson is the 36-year-old St Joseph man accused of holding police at bay for several hours in a home on Faraon Street on February 2.
When officers used teargas to get the suspect out of the house he was discovered with what police described as a serious, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He’s charged with assault of a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm. Mr Johnson is being held in the Buchanan County jail, unable to post $25,000 bail.
Formal Circuit Court arraignment is scheduled April 25.
