A 16-year-old has been charged after a situation last week at Benton High School involving guns being brought to school.
The teenage boy has been charged in juvenile court for stealing and unlawful use of a weapon.
Dan Sharp, Dir. of Field Services for the 5th Circuit Juvenile Office said the teen remains in custody.
As we reported last week, the St. Joseph School District said Friday two Benton students were arrested after it was revealed that guns were stolen by one student and brought to school for the purpose of exchanging them with another student. The district said police did not feel at any time there was an intent to harm Benton students or staff but that this was a violation of the safe schools act.
Sharp said juvenile court was only presented with one teen and held the one they were presented with. The case is still under investigation.
Because the defendant is a juvenile few details will be released.
