Livingston County officials say they’ve made progress in their investigation of the theft of a gun safe last month.
Sheriff Steve Cox says his officers and the Chula Fire Department investigated items in Medicine Creek at Liv 216. LCSO and Chula FD worked on recovering the door of a safe and searched for other items.
The dive team from the Missouri State Highway Patrol recovered firearms from the creek which had been stolen from the residence and safe. Additional items and the remainder of the safe were also located through this and additional investigation. The firearms and other evidence were preserved in a manner which has produced results of latent fingerprints for examination of items being dumped in waterways.
Cox says the LCSO has turned these items over to the MSHP Crime Lab in Jefferson City and are expecting a lab report of their findings in the very near future.
