MWSU Charity Golf ClassicThe 14th Annual Missouri Western Charity Golf Classic starts this weekend.

The event, hosted by the Griffon Athletic Department of MWSU offers a weekend of fun and prizes to support the work of the YWCA St. Joseph Shelter for Abused and Homeless Women and Children. The two-day event will benefit both organizations and takes place on Saturday, June 4th and Monday, June 6th.

Saturday will be an evening of dining and a variety of entertainment. Monday will be a daytime four-person golf scramble. Both events offer many amenities, including a player pack of gifts.

The Saturday evening portion starts at 6 p.m. at the St. Jo Frontier Casino (777 Winners Circle, St. Joseph, Mo). The evening kicks off with a charity social, including food, beverages and live entertainment. There will be both silent and live auction events offering sports and pub memorabilia.

The second half of the two-part charity event starts on Monday, June 6th on the grounds of the St. Joseph Country Club (50 Ridgeland Road, St. Joseph, Mo). Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start to the golf tournament at 10 a.m. Play is set up for four-person scramble teams. Players will find something to win at every hole including five hole-in-one prizes. Cost for the golf event is $250/individual or $1,000/team.

“We really appreciate the support of Griffon Athletics toward ending violence toward women and children in the home,” says Jean Brown, YWCA St. Joseph Executive Director.

“Our shelter is the only resource of its kind in the area for women and children experiencing violence and trying to put their lives back together. We hope the community will join us at this event to raise support and awareness.”
