Rodeo time kicks off in area towns

Next weekend will feature mutton bustin’ and bull riding at two towns around the area.

The Doniphan County Rodeo will take place Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11 starting at 7 p.m. each night at the 4-H Arena located at 211 N. Boder St. in Troy, Kan.  The rodeo will also hold a street dance Friday night on Main Street in Troy. Tickets are $10 for 12 and older, $5 for kids age 5-11, and children 4 and under get in free.  Youth mutton bustin’ for kids age 4 to 12 will start the events each night.  To preregister call Norman at (785) 985-3933.

Also June 10 and 11 the Tarkio Rodeo will take place starting at 8 p.m. located on Highway 136 East in Tarkio, Mo.  The rodeo will include 9 events and mutton bustin’ starting at 6 p.m. for kids 6-and-under.

Roger Livengood with the Tarkio Rodeo said bull riders aren’t looking for an easy bull to ride.

“You don’t score good with an easy ride,” Livengood said. “They’ve got to come out hard so they can score good.”

Tickets for the Tarkio Rodeo are $15 for adults, $5 for youth 12 and under, and free for preschoolers.
