A Nevada, Missouri truck driver was killed in a crash in southeastern Kansas Monday evening.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says a semi driven by 52-year-old Jayson Wessley crossed the center line on U.S. Highwaty 169 south of Iola at 7:12 p.m. Monday. According to the crash report, the truck crossed the highway, left the roadway, went into a ditch and then became wedged in an underpass.
Investigators say the big rig almost hit a vehicle in oncoming traffic. The crash report indicates that second driver in oncoming traffic wound up in the ditch avoiding the truck. That vehicle hit a delineator post but never made contact with the semi, and the second driver was not hurt.
