Opponents gear up for new power line project filing

Block Grain Belt Express cropped and resizedThe group that successfully organized opposition to block a power line project across Missouri is now gearing up for another fight. Block Grain Belt Express–Missouri has scheduled a series of information meetings for landowners and concerned citizens. They anticipate Clean Line Energy Partners will re-file the paperwork for the project with the Missouri Public Service Commission.

The company’s first application for a high voltage direct current transmission line across the state was denied by the PSC on July 1, 2015, when it found “the evidence shows that any actual benefits to the general public from the Project are outweighed by the burdens on affected landowners.”

As a complement to informational meetings to be held by Grain Belt Express, Block GBE will be holding its own informational meetings across the state. The Buchanan County meeting is scheduled in Faucett at the Lion’s Club June 25 starting at 10:30 a.m.

Block GBE spokeswoman Jennifer Gatrel said, “Once again, we will need the support of everyone in order to defeat Grain Belt and protect all of our property rights. We are in it to win it!”

Block GBE President Russ Piscotta said, “We look forward to seeing everyone again. Thank you all for your ongoing support. With your help, we can defeat Grain Belt once and for all!”

Block GBE will once again be represented pro bono by successful St. Louis attorney Paul Agathen, and will be raising funds for expert witnesses and expenses.
