The St. Joseph Mustangs were able to get a walk-off win Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they defeated Chillicothe 2-1.
St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 12-4 and they’re now in first place in the MINK League North with an 8-4 record.
Mustangs’ second baseman Brett Marr drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie and earn the win.
The ninth inning began with two Chillicothe errors. St. Joe’s Louis Mele put down a sacrafice bunt to move the runners over and then Mudcats’ pitcher Blake Weiman intentionally walked Connor Bacon to load the bases. That brought Marr to the plate, and Weiman threw four consecutive balls for the walk-off win for the Mustangs.
Dixon Marble (2-0) pitched a gem for St. Joseph as he threw a complete game six-hitter. Marble threw only 99 pitchers, 74 for strikes, as he struck out seven and walked one.
Bacon had the other RBI for the Mustangs as he had a two-out single in the first that put them ahead 1-0. Chillicothe tied the game with a two-out hit in the fourth inning from Dalton Schumer.
The Mustangs, who are just 1-2 on the road, begin a seven-game road trip Sunday at Nevada. The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
