St. Joseph scores seven unanswered runs to defeat Joplin 9-4

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from a loss at Nevada Sunday with a 9-4 victory Monday night at Joplin.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 19-8 and 14-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs fell behind 4-2 after three innings and then scored in four consecutive innings to pull away from the Outlaws.

St. Joseph scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game, then added three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh inning.

Mustangs’ left fielder Tyler Cox finished 2-for-4 with a home run, triple and two runs scored.  Matt Wollnick added two hits and two RBI.

Logan Jacik earned the win as he allowed six hits and four runs in five innings of work.  He struck out two and walked five.  St. Joe relievers John Millan, Jonathan Lynch and Jake Purl combined to throw four scoreless innings as they allowed just one base hit.

The Mustangs have a day off Tuesday and then return home to Phil Welch Stadium Wednesday for a non-league game against Rossville.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
