The St. Joseph Mustangs picked up their second straight win as they defeated Rossville 6-2 in a non-league game Wednesday inside Phil Welch Stadium.
St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 20-8 this season and they remain 14-8 in the MINK League.
Rossville jumped out to a quick lead with one run in the top of the first inning off of Mustangs’ starter Jacob Hurst. The score remained 1-0 until the fourth when St. Joseph scored four runs to take control of the game.
Louis Mele, Ozzie Rodriguez and Matt Wollnick each drove in one run in the inning, while Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch.
St. Joe added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before the Rattlers finally got a run back in the eighth.
Hurst picked up the win as he went six innings and allowed just one run on five hits. He struck out four and walked three batters.
Mele finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI as the Mustangs had only seven hits Wednesday. Five of those came in their four-run fourth inning.
St. Joseph returns to MINK League play Thursday as they host Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
