Mustangs roll past Clarinda 16-7 for fourth straight win

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs scored a season high 16 runs Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they defeated Clarinda 16-7.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team has now won four straight games as they improve to 22-8 and 16-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs took control of the game early as they scored four runs in the first inning and added three more in the second.  They eventually led 14-0 as Clarinda didn’t score until they put up five runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth.

St. Joseph shortstop Evan McDonald had a big night as he finished 4-for-6 with a home run, four runs scored and two RBI.  Louis Mele stay hot as well as he went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.  Brady Anderson, Tyler Cox, Jeremiah Figueroa and Clayton Risch added two hits each.

Miles Kilgore started for the Mustangs and earned his fourth win of the summer.  He went 7.2 innings and allowed five hits and three earned runs.

St. Joseph plays a non-league game Saturday night at Phil Welch Stadium as they host North Kansas City at 7:00 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.
