Six Mustangs selected to MINK League All-Star Game

MINKASGST. JOSEPH, Mo. The MINK League North Division leaders are sending six players to the 2nd annual All-Star game at Phil Welch Stadium on Thursday.

The Mustangs will be represented by catcher Brady Anderson, second baseman Brett Marr, shortstop Evan McDonald, designated hitter Kyle Uhrich and pitchers John Millan and Jake Purl in the MINK League All-Star game.  Also, third baseman Louis Mele will hit for St. Joseph in the home run derby.

Anderson, a junior at Valley City State University, is currently leading MINK North catchers with a .321 batting average. He’s also hit two home runs and driven in eight with eight stolen bases.

Marr gets the nod at second with a .279 average, two doubles, two triples and 10 RBI. He also drew a gamewinning walk against Chillicothe in a crucial league matchup on June 18.

Since Evan McDonald arrived in St. Joseph, he’s been on a tear with a .432 batting average, one home run, seven RBI and 11 stolen bases. McDonald’s biggest night came on July 1 against Clarinda when he posted a four-hit night including a two-run home run to start the game.

Uhrich’s leading the Mustangs with four home runs, including a performance on June 21 in Branson featuring two homers, and another on June 22. He’s batting .304 for the season and a team-high 26 RBI.

Millan’s been solid out of the bullpen throughout the summer, and posted two dominant starts as well. The El Paso, Texas native has a 4-0 record, a 0.33 ERA through 27 innings of work.

Purl’s also been dominant out of the bullpen in eight appearances with a 1.00 ERA, and he’s averaging more than one strikeout per inning.

Mele gets the nod in the home run derby for St. Joe after recording 10 extrabase hits and a .380 batting average leading into July 4. Mele’s hit one home run this summer, and he hit five last spring at NYIT.

The MINK League All-Star Game will be played on July 7 at 7pm at Phil Welch Stadium. Before the game, each MINK team will be represented in the second home run derby starting at 5:15pm.
