Uhrich’s eighth inning home run rallies St. Joseph past Sedalia

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs rallied for their sixth consecutive victory Monday night as they defeated Sedalia 10-9 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 24-8 and they’re 17-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs played from behind the entire game as they never lead until the bottom of the eighth inning when Kyle Uhrich hit a two-run home run with two outs that put St. Joseph ahead 10-9.

Steve D’Amico came on to earn his third save of the season in the ninth inning as St. Joe now has its longest win streak of the season.

The Mustangs overcame three different three-run deficits Monday night as they fell behind 4-1 after two and a half innings, 5-2 after three and a half and 8-5 after four and a half innings.

Sedalia took an 9-8 lead as they scored an unearned run in the seventh inning and it stayed that way until Uhrich heroics in the eighth.

St. Joseph had 16 hits on the night as Uhrich finished 4-for-5 on the night with two runs and two RBI.  Louis Mele went 3-for-3 with two runs, Evan McDonald added three hits and five RBI and Brady Anderson also had three hits.

Drew Ferguson got the win in relief for the Mustangs as he threw 1.2 scoreless innings.  Logan Jacik made the start and struggled as he allowed eight runs on 12 hits in five innings of work.

The Mustangs are on the road Tuesday as they play at Chillicothe.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
