St. Joseph defeats Natural Baseball Academy 7-3

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game against a non-league opponent Wednesday as they beat Natural Baseball Academy 7-3 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 27-11 this season, while Natural Baseball Academy is now 15-13.

The Mustangs fell behind 2-1 in the third inning but answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to regain the lead.  St. Joseph put the game away with three more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.

Mustangs’ starter Jeremiah Figueroa struggled with his control as he allowed only one hit but walked 11 batters in 4.2 innings.  Jake Van Vacter earned the win in relief as he gave up one run in 3.1 innings.  He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

Clayton Risch and Brett Marr had two hits each to lead the St. Joe 10-hit attack.  Davey Casciola drove in two runs, while Marr and Jonathan Zuptich each scored twice.

The Mustangs are back at home Thursday for another non-league game against the Kansas City Monarchs.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.
