The National Weather Service has issued a funnel cloud sighting in a special weather statement in storms that rolled through the area Thursday.
At 4:21 p.m. the service said trained weather spotters and the public have reported sighting of funnel clouds south of St. Joseph and Bendena Kan. The funnel clouds were along a boundary ahead of weak showers and thunderstorms. It said the clouds are possible over the next hour along the boundary but are not expected to make any contact with the surface.
The service said atmospheric conditions exist that favor the possible formation of weak circulations on a pre-existing boundary. Some of the circulations are occurring underneath developing showers and thunderstorms. It said once the rain begins the funnel cloud usually dissipates.
