Helen Hendrickson Hjetland
1920-2016

Helen Hendrickson Hjetland, 95, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at her home in Hiawatha, Kansas.
She was born November 13, 1920, in Lone Jack, Missouri, to Herschel Byron and Bessie Faulkenberry Hendrickson. After living in Kansas City the family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri where she graduated from Central High School in 1939. Prior to her marriage, she worked for Westab in St. Joseph a few years.
Mrs. Hjetland was married to Raymond Herr on February 22, 1944. Sgt. Herr died on September 22, 1944 during World War II. On April 24, 1949, she was united in holy matrimony with Melvin Hjetland of Everest, Kansas.
Following her marriage to Mr. Hjetland, she spent the remainder of her life on the family farm near Everest and then in Hiawatha, Kansas.
Mrs. Hjetland was a member of the Upper Wolf Lutheran Church; and South Fork Extension Homemakers Unit. Mrs. Hjetland loved learning the computer, reading, and preserving family history for her children. As long as her health permitted she enjoyed going for afternoon drives, and watching birds at a local pond. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her siblings Luella Hendrickson Maxwell, Herschel Francis Hendrickson, and Alice Hendrickson Liebig.
She is survived by her husband Melvin of the home; children Jerry (Joyce) Hjetland of Everest, Kansas, Randy (Terri) Hjetland of Calera, Alabama, Peggy Hjetland (Bob) Kaiser of Shawnee, Kansas and her nephew Bob (Cheryl) Hjetland, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Helen’s life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday, 18, at the Upper Wolf Lutheran Church,1803 Sumac Road, Robinson, with Pastor Steve Evans officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the Church.

Louis Ted Day
1942-2016

Louis Ted Day, 74, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at his home. He was born June 23, 1942 in Sherman, TX. He attended Christian Brothers High School and married Verna “Kay” Stephens on June 24, 1961. He was self-employed at Day & Son Excavating and Construction. He had a heart of gold, and was always busy doing something around the house and garage. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Louis was a member of the Sparta United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, father Harry Ralph Day, Sr., step-mother, Anna Darlene Day, mother, Annabelle Frieda Miller, step-father, Ray Miller, two brothers, Harry Day, Jr. and Paul Day, two step-brothers, Mike Mullen and Kelly Mullen. Survivors include: wife, Kay Day of the home, three daughters, Brenda Kay (Wayne) Krull of Faucett, MO, Kimberly Kay Day (companion Kevin) of St. Joseph, and Beverly Kay Berning (companion Brian) of Gladstone, MO, son, Joseph Day (companion Adena) of St. Joseph, MO, a sister JoAnn Finney, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Sparta United Methodist Church with Pastor Rodney Krumme officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home.

Connie R. Thacker
1951-2016

Connie R. Thacker, 65, Craig, Missouri, formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Friday, July 15, 2016 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri.
She was born January 15, 1951.
Connie married Glen Edward Thacker, who preceded her in death September 17, 2011.
She was a big fan of Elvis, liked to go to the casino once in a while with her best friend Betty Solars, was an avid bell collector, and the best of all she loved her grandkids, family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her son, James Ray Thacker; and grandson, Christopher.
Survivors include her three children, Glen E. Thacker, Jr. (Meta Pettyjohn), Council Bluffs, Iowa, Tammy R. Thacker (Scott Blanchard), Skidmore, Missouri, and Amy S. Welch (Frank), Craig, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary Dean Moxley
1939-2016

Gary Dean Moxley was born Sunday, May 28th, 1939; and passed away Friday, July 15th, 2016. Visitation Friday, July 22nd, 2016, 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Located at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Helen Cronkite St. John
1912-2016

Helen Cronkite St. John, 103, died July 16, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care.
She was born September 12, 1912, in Maitland, Missouri
to Vienna Goodpasture Morford and Melvern Morford. After growing
up in Maitland, she attended Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri where she met and later married Fritz Cronkite.
Soon after marriage, they moved to St. Joseph where she began her
career as a teacher, first at Washington Grade School and then
Central High School. She was revered by her students as a caring
and talented educator.
After retirement, Mrs. Cronkite married Dale St. John and moved to
Albany Missouri where they lived until his death.
Upon returning to St. Joseph, she relished spending time with friends and family including her daughter, Kay Cronkite Barnes and son-in-law, Tom Van Dyke, grandchildren, Fritz Waldo and wife, Johannah, and Kelly Dillman and husband, Steve, and great-granddaughter,
Sydney Dillman.
A heartfelt thank you to her caregivers who have surrounded Helen with love and care for the last few years: Birdie and Virgil Stanton, Debra Payne, Theresa Wooten, Julie Van Dorn, and Kathleen Miller.
