She was born May 6, 2001 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Marissa attended Lafayette high School, where she was an Honor student and excelled in Softball, Basketball and Track.
She always had a smile and had very many close friends. Marissa loved animals, had a great sense of humor and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Robert L. McGaughy; maternal great-grandfather, Eugene Armold; and maternal great-grandparents, Orval Lintner (Dorothy).
Survivors include parents, Tony and Tammy (Armold) McGaughy; brother, Gary McGaughy; paternal grandmother, Cecilia McGaughy; maternal grandparents, David Armold (Pat); maternal great-grandmother, Helen Armold; three aunts, Deborah Hill (Tom), Becky Makkers (David) and Becky Pettet (Bruce); four uncles, Bill McGaughy (Gisele), Paul McGaughy (Carol), Barry Armold (Lori) and Brian Armold (Charlotte); and numerous cousins and extended family.

Lila Hayes
1927-2016

Hayes, Lila. obitphotoLila Hayes, 89, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri.
She was born March 31, 1927 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Lila was a member of St. Francis Baptist Temple and was an avid bowler. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and hosting family gatherings. Her family was most important to her and knew her as the hostess with the most.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents, Henry and Lila (Brown) Byrd; two great-grandchildren, Alisa Winrow and Robert Beasley; three brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelia Tyler, Kansas City, Missouri and Alberta “Frankie” Hughes, St. Joseph, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Ralonda, Robyn, Roland “Tyrone” and Shelia “Na Na” Tyler, Christopher Hayes and Tony and Tayven Hughes; eleven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joann Byrd and Barbara Campbell, Omaha, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Farewell Services 3:00 P.M. Saturday, St. Francis Baptist Temple. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service, St. Francis Baptist Temple. The family will receive friends following the service at 1208 S 24th St, where food and drinks can be dropped off prior to the service. Anthony “Tony” Thomas Meade
1973-2016

Anthony “Tony” Thomas Meade 43, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday July 18, 2016 at his home. He was born April 27, 1973 in St. Joseph, Missouri son of Connie & Everett Meade. He worked as a cook, and at Triumph foods. He was a Civil War fanatic who loved fishing, collecting wolves, working with his hands, and country music. Tony was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Lutz, paternal grandfather, Kenneth Meade, and paternal grandparents, Jean and Gordon Root. He is survived by his parents, two daughters, Kyrie Meade and Shelby Meade, brother, Staff Sgt. Kenneth (Jessica) Meade of Okinawa, Japan, sister, Elizabeth (Keoki) Kaahea of St. Joseph, MO, maternal grandmother, Dorothy Lutz, uncles, Frank (Mary) Tilton of Springfield, MO, and Barry (Barb) Lutz of Kansas City, MO, nieces, CeciliaJean Kaahea, and Kayla Meade, nephews, Everett Kaahea, and Kenneth W. Meade, Jr., and numerous cousins. A memorial service will be held Sunday, at they Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Tony has been cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested, in lieu of flowers,to the Huntington Foundation.

Gwendolyn Smith Bartlett
1925-2016

Bartlett, Grendolyn obit photoLong time St. Joseph resident, Gwendolyn Smith Bartlett passed away on July 18 after a long and wonderful life. Gwen was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Wendell E. Smith and Irene Shepardson Smith on December 5, 1925. On April 23, 1949 she married Walter C. Bartlett at the First Presbyterian Church of St. Joseph where she and her husband lived throughout their married life. Her husband predeceased Gwen in 1985.
Her two daughters, Wendy B. Serrell of Austin, Texas and Brenda B. Graves of St. Joseph, and their husbands, Howard and Reed, survive her. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kathryn Bartlett Graves of St. Joseph, Bradley Clay Graves and his wife Alison of St.Louis, MO, and Bretton Bartlett Serrell of Austin, Texas, as well as two great-grandchildren, Lynnin Reed Graves of St. Joseph, and William Henry Graves of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by her life-long friend, Bickley Bayer of St. Joseph.
During her very active life in St. Joseph, Gwen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of St. Joseph, the Benton Club and the St. Joseph Country Club. Gwen was a graduate of Central High School, Stephens College and the University of Missouri where she was a proud 50-year member of the Theta chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was also a long time member of the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club of Boca Raton, Florida where she wintered for many years.
Gwen was a kindred spirit to a wide variety of friends, both in St. Joseph and in Boca Raton. Her loyalty to her friends, her well timed sense of humor and her generosity endeared her to many. Gwen was an avid golfer who took advantage of the game to travel far and wide. Her shrewdness as a card player was well known, especially to her grandchildren who she schooled on the nuances of cribbage, gin, hearts and poker. She played bridge since her college days and Mah Jongg in recent years, and kept those friends very close to her.
Her family will never forget Gwen’s warm greeting whenever they arrived at her home for a visit. “Hineepines” was a sure sign that Gwen was delighted to see them and though the greeting was a source of mystery to non-family members, they were soon reassured that it was just dog talk.

Kenneth “Kenny” Brunner
1945-2016

He was born October 12, 1945 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Kenny proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a well-known musician who had a love for music and a great sense of humor. He also enjoyed fixing and building guitars and was the owner/operator of Brunner TV in St. Joseph, Mound City and Platte City. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred (Wagoner) Brunner; daughter, Kimberly Brunner-Newman; brother, Gary Brunner (Laura); great-nephew, Daniel Fattig; and two beloved boxers, Snow and Gertrude.
Survivors include wife of 17 years, Lauretta (Spidle) Brunner; children, Chiro Richey and Kenneth Charles “KC” Brunner; step-daughter, Brandy Kimble (Brian); three grandchildren, Matthew Newman, Braden and Chloe Richey; siblings, Connie Cass (Bill), Kathie Brunner and Kevin Brunner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris J. (Steward) Munsell
1931-2016

Munsell, Doris. obitphotoDoris J. (Steward) Munsell passed away peacefully at Laverna Village in Savannah on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the age of 84.
She was born October 11, 1931 in Cameron, MO to William Oliver and Ethel Ellen Steward and lived on a farm near Cameron, MO until she married her best friend Harold (Bud) in 1951 and moved to Maryville, MO. Later they moved to St. Joseph where they raised their 3 boys and made their home. After retirement both Bud and Doris enjoyed traveling and had a winter home in Mesa, Arizona before health issues brought them back to St. Joseph. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with all of them. She loved each member dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Ollie & Ethel (Sloan) Steward; brother, Forest Steward; sisters, Mildred Bryant and Ethel Walker; and granddaughter, Erin Munsell.
Survivors include her husband, Harold (Bud) Munsell; sons, Mike (Lisa) Munsell, Liberty, MO, Mark (Barb) Munsell, Savannah, MO and Brian (Emily) Munsell, St. Joseph MO; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Farewell Services & Interment 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Larry Williams with Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday with friends and family at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris’s life. Karl Eddy Reichman

He was born August 22, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Karl married Rose Therese Cross on August 21, 1954.
He was employed by the Highway Patrol for 35 years, the first 3 years as a Driver’s Examiner: the last 32 years as a Trooper retiring as Safety and Information Sergeant. After retirement he worked for many years at Hall Abstract and St. Joseph Title.
He enjoyed golfing, was an avid walker, and loved spending time with family. Karl was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Esther (West) Reichman; daughter, Julie Ann Welsh; sister, Bettilou Chaney; and brother, Benjamin Reichman.
Survivors include wife, Rose Reichman, St. Joseph, Missouri; son, Ted Reichman (Betsy), St. Joseph, Missouri; granddaughters, Lacey Adams (Zach), Denver, Colorado and Karly Welsh, Colorado Springs, Colorado; great-granddaughter, Lilah Jean Adams, Denver, Colorado; brother, Richard Reichman (Joyce), Lake Lotawana, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie Elaine Holland
1949-2016

Marie Elaine Holland 67, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday July 20, 2016 at a Saint Joseph health care center. She was born May 21, 1949 in Leavenworth, Kansas daughter of Winifred & Jake Wright. She was a Homemaker and a Catholic. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brother, Jacob and Patrick Wright. She is survived by sons, Dana Grippando, David Grippando, William Holland, Cari Richardson, two brothers, John and Joseph Wright, four sisters: Roberta Starmer, Wendy Studer, Rosalie Threet, and Rebecca Hoskins. Cremation services under care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. There are no scheduled visitation or memorial services at this time.
