As temperatures heat up the St. Joseph Salvation Army is giving out fans to those in need.
The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect for a large portion of our area from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Temperatures will reach the mid 90s with heat index values ranging from 105 to 107.
LeeAnn Hobson with the Salvation Army said this week 49 box fans were donated to the agency.
“Westlake recently hosted a fan drive to benefit The Salvation Army and St. Joseph-area customers generously donated enough funds to purchase 49 new box fans to help their fellow citizens in need,” she said.
The Salvation Army is distributing the fans.
“Heat poses a very real danger to the elderly, families with young children and those with medical issues,” Hobson said. “Fans are critical to keeping those without air conditioning or who are on a fixed income comfortable and safe during the hot summer months.”
