Boy hurt in third US amusement park accident in four days

Idlewide and Soak ZoneA 3-year-old boy has been injured in an accident on an old wooden roller coaster in Pennsylvania and has been hospitalized. This marks the third serious accident in the last four days involving an amusement park ride.

A spokesman for Idlewild and SoakZone amusement park near Ligonier, Pennsylvania says the boy was injured Thursday while riding the attraction with his brother. A county dispatcher says the boy fell off the ride.

The park hasn’t provided details on what happened. Officials say the boy was conscious when he was airlifted to a hospital. The boy’s name, age and condition haven’t been released.

On Monday, three children fell more than 30 feet from a Ferris wheel when their basket overturned at the Greene County Fair in Greenville, Tenn. All were injured and Briley Reynolds, 6, remained in critical condition Thursday. The rides at the fair were being dismantled Thursday.

On Sunday, a boy was decapitated riding a water slide at Kansas City’s Schlitterbahn Water Park. The “Verrukt” water slide will remain closed for the season, but the park reopened Wednesday.
