Sheriff’s office taking sign-ups for citizen’s academy

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is giving area residents and business owners the chance to get an in-depth look at its operations.

Sign-ups are currently being taken for a citizen’s academy slated to being this fall in Platte County.

“The citizens of Platte County are an essential part of law enforcement in our community. The Citizen’s Academy provides a hands on learning experience designed to give you, the citizen, a better understanding of the role and function the Platte County Sheriff’s Office plays in our community,” said Sheriff Mark Owen.

The academy will start on Wednesday September 7, 2016. The deadline to apply is Friday September 2, 2016. The Academy will meet Wednesday nights from 6:30pm until 9:30pm for nine weeks. One Saturday afternoon session (October 8, 2016 from 9:00am to 4:00pm) will also be part of the Academy. Class size is limited to 20 people.

Citizens of Platte County and people who run businesses in Platte County are eligible to enroll in the Academy. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. Individuals interested in obtaining more information on the Academy or applying to participate should visit the Sheriff’s Office website at www.plattesheriff.org/sheriffs-citizens-academy.
