Flooding over roadway at SE State Hwy DD

Buchanan County Sheriff sealThe Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department urges motorists to avoid the area of Southeast State Hwy DD/Southeast 115th Road at Malden Creek.

According to a Nixle alert issued at 5:26 a.m., there is water over the roadway.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning at 2:08 a.m. for the Platte River near Agency affecting Buchanan County until late Thursday night.

At 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the stage was 19.4 feet. Flood stage is 20 feet. The National Weather Service forecasts the river to rise to near 22.2 feet by Wednesday afternoon and fall below flood stage by Thursday morning.

NWS urges motorists to avoid driving through flowing water. Nearly half of all flood fatalities are vehicle related. As little as 6 inches of water may cause motorists to lose control of their vehicle. Two feet of water will carry most vehicles away.
