Convicted pipe bombers sentenced

Leavenworth County Sheriff patchA pair of convicted pipe bombers will spend the next several years in prison after their sentencing this week in Leavenworth County District Court. Joseph Lee Dickey, 26, of Leavenworth, Kansas, was sentenced on two counts of Criminal Use of Explosives, a severity level 5 person felony. Amber Marie Wood, 21, of Leavenworth, Kansas, was sentenced today to one count.

In a news release, County Attorney Todd Thompson says Dickey gave a pipe bomb to Ms Wood on May 3, 2016. She then placed it in an unoccupied vehicle. The detonation caused vehicle damage but no injuries.

Dickey was convicted for another incident on April 18, 2016. Thompson says Dickey knowingly drove another suspect to the 500 Block of Delaware in Leavenworth County to place a pipe bomb into an unoccupied vehicle. While there, the additional suspect took out a pipe bomb taped to a gas can, placed it inside of an unoccupied vehicle and detonated it causing vehicle damage but no injuries.

Dickey was sentenced to serve a total of 47 months in Kansas Department of Corrections custody. Wood was sentenced to serve a total of 36 months.
