MT. VERNON, Mo. (AP) — A 49-year-old southwest Missouri man has been charged in the death of a man whose body was found last week in a parked vehicle.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Michael W. Jones has been charged in Lawrence County with second-degree murder in the death of 49-year-old Timothy Goodman of Mount Vernon.

Jones is also charged with abandonment of a corpse.

The patrol says Jones is being held at the Lawrence County Jail on $500,000 bond. It’s unclear if Jones has a lawyer.

The Joplin Globe reports a police officer on patrol last week in Mount Vernon discovered the victim in a parked vehicle.
