A Nebraska man has pleaded no contest to charges stemming from a shooting over the Memorial Day weekend at a campground in Nemaha County, Kansas.

Anthony Leftwich of Dawson, Nebraska entered the plea to one count of aggravated battery and one county of criminal threat.

Nemaha County Attorney Brad Lippert says he will ask for a 48-month prison term when Judge James A. Patton pronounces sentence September 29th.

Officials say Leftwich was at a campground at the Old Sabetha Lake on May 29 when he got into an argument with the victim, Thad Lambrecht of Bern, Kansas. Investigators say the suspect pulled a firearm and shot Lambrecht.

Witnesses to the shooting forcibly detained Leftwich until officers arrived.

Lippert says Mr. Lambrecht was seriously hurt. He has been released from the hospital, and is recuperating at home. Lippert says Lambrecht’s injuries will likely cause problems for the rest of his life.
