Fall rabies vaccination clinic offered this weekend

dog-1023933_1920An opportunity to protect your pets will be offered at the fall rabies vaccination clinic in St. Joseph this weekend.

St. Joseph Animal Shelter Humane Educator Jenna Keyes said they’ll be offering rabies vaccinations, combination vaccinations, microchipping, dog park tag sales – everything offered at the spring rabies clinics will also be available at the clinic on Saturday. Keyes said a rabies vaccination is something you need to get every year as a preventative for your pet.

“I know a lot of people think rabies is not a big deal, but it’s so simple to get that preventative vaccination for your animal, especially whenever you can come by a rabies vaccination clinic and get it for such a cheap price,” Keyes said. “I hear a lot of times, ‘My dog is indoor,’ ‘My cats never go outside,’ ‘I’m never going to need a rabies vaccination.’ That’s not true. You still need to get those rabies vaccinations, your animals still have to have those city licenses if you’re living inside the city, you never know whenever your animal may get out or whenever wildlife may get into your house, as well. It’s a lot better to be proactive from the start and it’ll make your headache a little less if they should ever be exposed to a wild animal.”

The fall rabies vaccination clinic takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the St. Joseph Aquatic Park.
