Strike force rounds up nearly two dozen drug suspects

Buchanan County Drug Strike Force logoThe Buchanan County Drug Strike Force and four other law enforcement agencies on Thursday and Friday rounded up nearly two dozen people suspected of drug crimes. Captain Shawn Collie, commander of the strike force, says the arrests came at the end of a lengthy series of investigations.

“We had 24 warrants,” Capt. Collie said. “Of those 24 warrants 22 are in custody and we have two outstanding that we’re looking for.”

“The cases involve the distribution of heroin, the distribution of methamphetamine, and the distribution of various prescription pills.”

Collie says two of the suspects are in custody of the Department of Corrections, and their warrants have not yet been served. Two suspects remain at large. One man was being held in the Doniphan County Jail after his arrest in Wathena. Collie says that man has since been transported to the Buchanan County Jail.

Officers also arrested two suspects for outstanding warrants unrelated to the strike force investigations.

Officials say the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office and the Wathena, Kansas police department joined in the effort to round up the suspects.
