A presentation to talk about the historical preservation of newspapers and the access to them online will be held later this week in St. Joseph.
The St. Joseph Public Library will host Patricia (Patsy) Luebbert, administrator of the Missouri Digital Newspaper Project. She’s scheduled to present two one-hour presentations to library patrons on October 20th. She will be at the Downtown Library, 927 Felix Street at 1 p.m. and at the East Hills Library, 502 N. Woodbine Road at 6:30 p.m.
According to a news release from SJPL, over the past seven years almost 1 million pages of Missouri newspapers have been digitized and are available freely on the Missouri Digital Newspaper page of the State Historical Society of Missouri website (http://shs.umsystem.edu/newspaper/mdnp/) and the Library of Congress website Chronicling America (http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/). This project is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities and through LSTA grants to public libraries in Missouri.
The library said Patsy has spent 35 years at the Missouri State Archives, holding positions of Senior Archivist and Reference Supervisor. Patsy received her Master’s Degree in History from Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She has presented numerous programs to genealogists, historians, historical societies, educators, school children and more in her 40-year career of archival work.
