An inmate at the state prison in southeastern Nebraska has been accused of assaulting a staff member. Officials say an inmate at the Tecumseh State correctional Institution assaulted a staff member, striking the staffer in the head and face.

According to a news release from the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, the assault occured at about 12:45 p.m. in a staff office in a housing unit at the prison. The staff member was able to exit the office and call for help.

The staff member was treated and released for injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.

The names of the staff member and the inmate will not be released. Officials say the incident will be investigated and the findings will be submitted to prosecutors.
