Bow Hunter lifeflighted after fall from tree

emergency featureA hunter in Buchanan County was taken by life flight Wednesday morning after falling out of a tree.

Cpl. Sarah Hardin with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said emergency responders were called out around 9 a.m. to an area between 3393 and 3396 Bethel Road in the area of Route JJ near DeKalb.

Hardin said the man was bow hunting and fell out of his tree but that it’s unknown how long he laid there.  He did not have a cellphone on him so when he didn’t return home she said his family was concerned and went looking for him. The man was described as a white man in his 50s.  Hardin said she did not know if he was using a tree stand or wearing a safety harness.

Hardin said when the sheriff’s department arrived on scene crews were already loading him into the helicopter for transport. The extent of his injuries were unknown.
