Several organizations are offering special activities and free meals to veterans and active-duty members of the armed forces for Veterans Day, which is Friday.

On Saturday, a special program is planned in Savannah which four veterans talk about their experiences in the Korean War and World War Two.

The American Legion Post 287 of Savannah will present the colors before the program. Then Everett Powell, Edner Rudolph, Bob Knechtenhofer and Reid Ordnung will talk about their roles and experiences in combat. The program will also include a short tribute to SSGT Charles H. Oliver, who was declared Missing in Action in World War Two and is presumed dead.

The event is free. It starts at 2pm Saturday at the Andrew County Museum, 202 E. Duncan Drive in Savannah.

HyVee in St. Joseph is offering free breakfast for veterans from 6am to 11am.

Over the last week, Subway restaurants coordinated meal drop-offs to local Veterans of Foreign Wars locations including 200 6-inch turkey subs, bags of chips and chocolate chip cookies. Local Subway restaurants of Kansas City, Springfield, St. Joseph, Topeka and Joplin announced their Veterans Day promotion, “Reserved with Gratitude.” On Friday, Subway will offer a FREE 6-inch sub for all veterans and active duty members of the armed forces. At participating restaurants, Subway will also honor their sacrifice by reserving a special table for Veterans to enjoy their free sandwiches.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers will offer a free combo meal to all veterans and active-duty military. The card can be redeemed through 11/30/16.

If you know of any other special promotions for Veterans Day, please let us know in the comments section. We’ll add them to the list.
