A St. Joseph man is facing a charge after allegedly running into a home to avoid an officer.

Zachary Baker, 32 was charged Tuesday in Buchanan County with a felony for resisting arrest.

According to court documents, Baker who was wanted for two active warrants was in the 2900 block of S. 19th St. Monday when he was spotted by a St. Joseph Police Officer.

“Officer Powell, who knew the defendant on sight chased the defendant into the residence,” said Det. Chris Davis. “The defendant then failed to answer the door after Officer Powell knocked for several minutes.”

The Special Response Team was then called to the home.

“After several minutes on scene the defendant and two other subjects emerged from the residence.  The defendant then entered a parked motor vehicle on scene and attempted to start it.  This was done in order to flee from officers on scene,” Davis said. “He was taken into custody before he could flee.”

Baker is being held on $5,000 bail.
