Jan Glenn, the director at the Andrew County Museum, says the facility has been open since 2009 and needs a thorough cleaning. Glenn says they’re closing the museum this week to take care of that.

She says most museums close for about a week, usually in January, for the same reason.

Glenn says between five and eight volunteers each day will clean the building and dust the artifacts. Curator Brittany Venturella will examine each of the display pieces to see if they need to be pulled for repairs or because they’ve been out in the light too long.

The current exhibition, “A Rural Way of Life,” will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 24., and will resume normal business hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Displays feature artifacts dating back to the founding of Andrew County in 1841, including toys, sports items, agricultural tools and machines, medical implements, household goods and furniture.
