Police investigate report of shots fired on Lafayette

wpid-wpid-sjpd-patch1.jpgThe St. Joseph Police Department is investigating a report of shots fired after a disturbance on Lafayette.

Sgt. Wayne Bryom said officers responded to the 2800 block of Lafayette around 1 p.m. Tuesday for a disturbance call involving possible shots fired.

Byrom said a resident allegedly looked out the window and said he saw a man stealing items from the back of his truck The resident allegedly confronted the man who then got into his vehicle to leave the scene and shots were fired. Byrom said officers are in the process of trying to determine who fired the shots. Casings were found at the scene and officers believe the front end of the vehicle was hit and possibly the hood engine. Bryom said they do not believe anyone was hit by gun fire in the incident.

The man who left the scene was described by police as white, in his 20 to 30s and was driving a dark blue or black four door car.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 238-TIPS.
