The Missouri Western baseball team snapped Northwest Missouri State’s eight-game winning streak Tuesday night with a 10-5 victory at the Griffon Spring Sports Complex.
The Griffons improve to 18-17 this season and they’re 15-10 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats drop to 24-11 and 13-9 in league play.
Northwest scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but MWSU bounced back with two runs in the second, third and sixth innings to build a 6-2 lead. The Griffons eventually led 10-3 before allowing two runs to the Bearcats in the top of the ninth inning.
Missouri Western’s Kellen Richards earned the win in relief as he threw 1.1 scoreless innings. Zach Cross started and lasted 4.2 innings. He gave up two runs on five hits.
The Griffons pounded out 17 hits in the victory as David Glaude and Bailey Zimmer each had three hits. Dusty Stroup, Nick Gawley and Logan Marston added two hits each, while Ryan Smith had four RBI. Gawley and Glaude drove in two runs for MWSU.
Missouri Western continues its seven-game home stand Thursday as they begin a three-game series with Fort Hays State. The first pitch is at 6:00 p.m. and it’ll be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.
