ST. JOSEPH – Bad luck never lasts forever, and it finally ran its course with the Missouri Western softball team Tuesday night as the Griffons (27-13, 7-7) snapped a five-game losing streak in a doubleheader split with Northwest Missouri State (22-14, 11-5).
The seemingly snake-bitten Griffons couldn’t catch a break in a 3-2 game one loss before breaking out of their offensive slump for nine hits in a 6-5 game two win.
NOTABLES
– The game two win snapped five-game skid for the team
– Missouri Western had its first extra base hits since March 25 in game two, getting a double and a home run
– Kailey Green’s two-run home run in the fourth inning of game two broke a 3-3 tie and gave MWSU five unanswered runs after falling behind 3-0
– The Griffons had 17 hits on the night, the most in a doubleheader for the team since its 26 against Lindenwood on March 9
TOP PERFORMERS
– Shelby Uhl continued her hot streak with a 3-for-6 night at the plate that included a run scored
– Katie Klosterman and Shelbie Atwell each went 3-for-6 themselves to break out of mini slumps. They also each drove in two runs and Atwell had a double and a run scored
– Paige Shifflett, Green and Rebekah Mueller each went 2-for-6 at the plate. Green drove in a team-high three runs on the night
