ST. JOSEPH – The Missouri Western baseball team (20-17, 17-10) got two complete games from its starting pitchers and racked up 28 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Fort Hays State (9-28, 2-23) on Thursday.
Richie Peoples picked up his fifth complete game of the season in a 14-5 game one winner. Nate Hunter went eight complete in a game two, 12-2, run-rule victory.
NOTABLES
– Missouri Western has now won four games in a row and five of its last six
– The Griffons’ 14 runs in game one were their most since a Feb. 4, 14-4 win over Newman
– MWSU out-hit Fort Hays State 26-7 in the doubleheader
– Peoples and Hunter combined for a 3.71 ERA and held Fort Hays State’s offense to a .277 average
– The Griffons had 10 extra base hits on the day with eight doubles and two home runs
TOP PERFORMERS
– Hunter went all eight innings in game two, holding Fort Hays State to seven hits and two runs. He struck out three and walked one.
– Peoples went more than seven innings for the ninth straight start and had a season-high eight strikeouts
– David Glaude went 5-for-8 with two walks on the day, driving in four, and was a triple shy of the cycle in game two
– Dusty Stroup had four hits in game one and went 5-for-11 on the day with four runs scored and three RBIs
– Ryan Smith drove in three with a home run to left in game one and went 3-for-8 on the day
