ST. JOSEPH – The Missouri Western baseball team had it’s nine-game winning streak snapped Tuesday at the Spring Sports Complex as they lost to Northwest Missouri State 5-2.
The Griffons won two-of-three in the series but fall to 25-18 and 22-1 in the MIAA. The Bearcats improve to 27-16 and they’re 16-14 in league play.
NOTABLES
– Missouri Western started the game by getting two of its first three batters on base before Jeremy Alvarado drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly
– An error on the Bearcats in the fourth inning allowed MWSU to tie the game at 2-2
– No extra base hits were recorded by either team, it’s the fourth time this season the Griffon defense has not allowed an extra base hit
– MWSU pitchers combined to throw 10 strikeouts
– The nine-game winning streak was the longest by Missouri Western since April 6, 2016 when it also won nine consecutive games
TOP PERFORMERS
– Levi Schreiner was 2-for-4 at the plate and scored one run
– Jeremy Alvarado drove in one run
– Kellan Richards threw one inning of relief work with no hits and three strikeouts
