The City of St. Joseph will cut the ribbon Thursday on the completion of the Hyde Park baseball field renovation project.
According to a news release, the project included newly renovated fields, new lighting, bleachers, retaining walls, sidewalks, updates to the concession building, resurfacing the parking lot, and more.
Funding for the project included $1.6 million from the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) half-cent sales tax. Other funding was through grants provided by the Royals Charities Royalty and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, Land & Water Conservation Fund, along with contributions by the Bode Charitable Trust, Harold P. Dugdale Charitable Trust, and the Norma J. and William J. Kenney Charitable Trust. Other private contributions were also made.
The ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m., on field 2 at Hyde Park. A ribbon cutting will be held and a first pitch thrown, along with Benton High School’s ROTC Color Guard and Benton Singers performing the National Anthem. Following will be a Pony Express Boys Baseball Exhibition with three games played by local U8, U10, and U12 teams. It also marks the 50th anniversary of the first baseball game played at Hyde Park.
