Suspect recaptured after fleeing from officer still wearing handcuffs

Rodolfo Hernandez

A man wanted on a warrant out of St. Joseph was arrested early this morning by a Deputy Sheriff in Dekalb County.  But, officials say the man fled from the officer, still wearing handcuffs.  He was caught several hours later after asking some kids for help getting the cuffs off.

Cameron Police say Rodolfo Hernandez was pulled over on a routine traffic stop this morning at approximately 1:00 A.M. at 69 Hwy and U.S. 36 Hwy in Cameron, Mo., and was transported to the Cameron Police Station.

As the Deputy was escorting Mr. Hernandez to his patrol vehicle, Mr. Hernandez was able to escape on foot.

Cameron police posted the man’s photograph and asked for the public’s help.  At approximately 10:00 A.M., Cameron dispatchers received a call from two boys that were mowing a yard who said they were approached by a male who was still handcuffed asking for assistance in cutting off the handcuffs. Together with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Cameron Fire Department, Cameron Police were able to locate Mr. Hernandez at approximately noon and took him into custody a second time.

Mr. Hernandez has been transferred to the Daviess/DeKalb Regional Jail pending charges, according to the Facebook post.
