Two arrested after high speed chase in Platte County

Two men are facing charges after a high speed chase ended in Platte County over the weekend.

Fernado Soto, 31 of Grandview is charged with felonies in Platte County of possession of a controlled substance, resisting a lawful stop and unlawful use of a weapon. Chistopher Hamm Jr., 19 of KCK is charged with felonies in Platte County of possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to court documents, Soto allegedly drove the vehicle which he and Hamm had used in the commission of a crime in another state. During the chase, 272 grams of methamphetamine and multiple firearms were allegedly tossed from the vehicle.

Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said the charges were filed Sunday, a day after the suspects were taken into custody. He said the chase ended near NW 72nd and NW Prairie View Road.

“Our deputies and the assisting agencies did an outstanding job in apprehending these individuals,” said Platte County Sheriff Mark Owen in a news release. “In addition to crimes in other jurisdictions that they may be involved in, their actions presented a hazard to the citizens on the roadways of Platte County.”

According to the release, the Kansas City Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Weatherby Lake Police Department and the Platte County Police Department assisted in the case.
