Mustangs bounce back and defeat Joplin Friday 8-4

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from a loss to Joplin Thursday as they defeated the Outlaws 8-4 Friday inside Phil Welch Stadium to even their series at one game a piece.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 7-2 this season and 4-2 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs gave starting pitcher Michael Lydon-Lorson a lot of run support early as they scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second, three more in the third inning and one run in the fourth. They built an 8-0 lead before Joplin scored four runs off the St. Joseph bullpen. The Outlaws scored one run in the eighth inning and three in the ninth.

Lydon-Lorson threw seven scoreless innings to move to 2-0 this season. He stuck out nine and walked two, and gave up just six hits. Lydon-Lorson had yet to allow a run in 16 innings this season.

Jacob Richardson and Jeremiah Figueroa had two hits each to lead the Mustangs’ offense, while Richardson and Brody Santilli added two runs a piece.

The Mustangs and Outlaws play again Saturday night inside Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.
