The St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game against Joplin Saturday inside Phil Welch Stadium Saturday 9-4. St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team won two-of-three in the series with the Outlaws as they improve to 8-2 this season and 5-2 in the MINK League.
The Mustangs led wire-to-wire Saturday as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Joplin pulled to within two runs twice, once in the fourth and once more in the sixth inning, but St. Joseph answered back in the bottom halves of those innings to extend their lead.
Kyle Uhrich homered in the Mustang’s three-run sixth inning as he finished 2-5 with two runs and three RBI. Jacob Richardson added three hits, Josh Williams went 2-4 with two RBI and Louis Mele scored three runs.
John Millan is now 2-0 on the season as he went seven innings to get the win for St. Joe. He allowed two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out two and walking just one.
The Mustangs begin a five-game road trip Sunday as they play at Nevada. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
