The main fundraiser event of the year for the Open Door Food Kitchen takes place next week.
According to Open Door board member Marsha Rosenthal, since they receive no federal or state funds, the food kitchen depend on donors and volunteers to keep it going.
The annual fundraising banquet on June 29th will include food, prizes and introductions of new board members and officers. Rosenthal said also that night, the Mary T. Cargill award will be presented.
“Mary T. Cargill was one of the individuals who originated the Open Door Food Kitchen, so every year we present a recognition award to someone who has done their part in contributing to the success of the Open Door whether it’s monetary or whether it’s working or whatever it is that has helped us greatly,” Rosenthal said.
The Open Door Food Kitchen’s fundraising banquet begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m and dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on North 49th Terrace in St. Joseph.
Reservations are required by noon on Wednesday, June 21, and can be made by calling (816) 273-7718.
