Fire caused extensive damage to a vacant home at 6th and Hall streets in uptown St. Joseph Friday night.

Authorities blocked traffic in the area as firefighters put out the blaze. Police just before 11 pm notified the public by text alert to avoid the area.

Officials said one unidentified firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion, but was able to return to work Saturday.
