Donald Dean Lay Sr.
1936-2017


Donald Dean Lay Sr. 80, of Clarksdale, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at his home. He was born December 1, 1936 in Hays, KS, son of the late Cora and George Lay. He worked at Meade Products, Yellow Freight and Armour & Company. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Union Local 29 serving as President for two terms. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wilma Lay, brothers, Lester, Earl, and Wayne Lay, and a sister, Lucille Hall. Survivors include, son, Donald Lay, Jr., daughter Rhonda Lay, all of St. Joseph, MO, fiancé Shirley Smith of the home, five grandchildren: Justin Lay, Kristan Lay, Bronson Vestal, Amy Davis, and Brittaney Kretzer, who was also his caretaker, as well as several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Pastor Leanna VanZandt officiating, The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Agency Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the American Diabetes Association.

Brandon Eugene Nolan
1993-2017


Brandon Eugene Nolan 24, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday July 18, 2017. He was born February 9, 1993 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He formerly worked at Simpson Saw Mill. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his cats, telling stories and helping people. Brandon was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Roseann Johnson,and maternal step grandfather, Charles Collings. He is survived by mother, Mary Johnson (Dirk), father, James Nolan, paternal grandparents, Ruth (Garth) Bryan, maternal grandfather, Bob Johnson, maternal great grandmother, Dorothy Potts, brothers, Jacob Griggs, and Derick Davila, and sister, Cecily Griggs. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. He will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Brandon Nolan Memorial fund in care of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Lola Doris Schleicher
1927-2017


Lola Doris Schleicher, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday,
July 17, 2017 at her apartment at Living Community.
She was born February 16, 1927 in Stewartsville, Missouri to Wayne
and Eleanor (Lewis) Silver.
Doris married Frank Schleicher on January 21, 1946.
She loved to travel with her husband all over the United States.
And loved to cook; her specialty was gooseberry pie.
Doris was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Seven Dolors
Catholic Church, Easton, Missouri for many years, but most recently Our
Lady of Guadalupe. She volunteered at the Veterans Home in Cameron,
Missouri. After raising her family she worked as a cook at Stewartsville
School for several years, and babysat many kids that today still call her
mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, an infant
brother and son in law, David Swanson.
Survivors include four daughters; Marilyn Baylis (Markis),
Columbia, Missouri, Karen Swanson, Overland Park, Kansas, Barbara Thorne
(Don), Blue Springs, Missouri, Janice Clizer (Kim), Platte City,
Missouri; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 A.M. Friday, Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church. Interment Cameron Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family
will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral
Home & Crematory. The family requests memorial contributions to Missouri
Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri, Stewartsville C-2 Schools, or Red

Verona Mae “Vera” George
1941-2017

Trimble, MO – Verona “Vera” Mae (Lurten) George was born April 14, 1941, daughter of James Franklin and Emma Jane (Long) Lurten. Vera went to her heavenly home with Jesus July 17, 2017, surrounded by her family. She grew up and attended school in Wheatland, Missouri. She was saved and baptized in Wheatland in her early teens. She attended Paradise Baptist Church, Paradise, Missouri. Vera was loved by all who knew her and known for her great memory, remembering all details that you shared with her, making an immediate connection with you. She enjoyed her kids and grandkids very much. Her warm, happy smile could light up any room.

Through Vera’s life, she was first and foremost a mother and homemaker. She worked at TWA for many years. She spent many happy hours as an accomplished seamstress, and quilter, along with home-style meal prep and gardening. She was an avid reader and word/number search puzzle champion. Her ability of playing the piano and singing Gospel hymns will always be a fond memory of her children as well as her devotion to loving each of them, her grandkids & great-grandkids.

The tenth child of fifteen children, Vera was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters: Gertie, Alice, Bernice, Asllee & Bette and 5 brothers: Paul, Lenny, Trucy, Gene & Jim. Also preceded by grandson, Devin & great-granddaughter, Jazlyn. She is survived by her children Vickie (Greg) Wade, Stewartsville, Mo., Ron, Parkville, Mo.; Tammy Selleck, Parkville, Mo.; Darrel, Trimble, Mo. and Terry of Smithville, Mo. Grandchildren: Nick (Nikki), Brice (Toni), Josh (Michelle), Jacob (Christine), Jennifer, Cassie, Heather, Megan, Summer (Jonathan) and Gabe. Great-Grandchildren: Tori, Tia, Lilah, Tenley, Bowen, Grayson, Lexi, Evan, Quentin, Zyri, Landon, Hallie, Hayden, Kaelynn, Colton, Abigail, Cory, Lily and Wyatt. 3 Brothers: Sid, Orbie (Sue), Bud (Linda) and 1 sister, Ellen. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & other family members & friends.

Visitation: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Hathaway Peterman Funeral Home, Wheatland, Missouri with services immediately following, at 12 Noon.
