Man accused of robbing 75-year-old woman at Walmart

SEEVER, DUSTIN PAUL

A St. Joseph man is accused of snatching a purse out of the cart of an elderly woman at N. Belt Walmart.

Dustin Seever, 26 was charged Monday in Buchanan County with a class-D felony of stealing.

According to court documents, on June 17 Seever is accused of grabbing a 75-year-old woman’s purse from her cart as she walked to her car in the N. Belt Walmart parking lot.

“The victim chased the male as he entered a waiting vehicle. When the male shut the door as she tried to take her property back, she fell to the ground and became injured,” said Det. Chase Cotter with the St. Joseph Police Department. “The driver of the vehicle made several turns in an effort to flee and almost ran the victim over.”

Cotter said he observed video surveillance from the store and positively identified Seever as the man who took the woman’s property and injured her.

“The defendant is observed on video following the elderly victim and then conspiring with two other subjects to rob her,” Cotter said.

Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney Dwight Scroggins said Wednesday morning, no one else has been charged in connection with the case.

Cotter said Seever is an active suspect in several other cases.

Seever is being held in the Buchanan County Jail on a total of $33,000 bail.  An arraignment is scheduled for Friday.
