ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – An innovative surface treatment is planned for two locations on westbound U.S. Route. Contractors from Truesdell Corporation, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will first work on a section of U.S. Route 36 westbound between Watson and Taylor Roads. This section should only take one night to complete. They will then move to westbound U.S. Route 36 between 10th Street and Interstate 229 in St. Joseph. This portion should take two to three nights to complete.

Crews will work at night as the product will cure better in cooler temperatures. U.S. Route 36 will be reduced to one lane between 8:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 28. All work should be complete by Sept. 1.

Contractors will blast the existing surface of the roadway before applying a High Friction Surface Treatment. Those living near the two sites may experience slightly elevated noise levels during the work.

This type of treatment gives drivers a better grip on the road in adverse conditions, such as rain and snow, which will help reduce the number of incidents that could be related to friction. These sections of roadway were chosen for the treatment due to the high number of crashes at these locations.
