St. Joseph Community Chorus begins rehearsals this week

The St. Joseph Community Chorus begins rehearsals Monday night for the 2017-18 season.

Jennifer Stammers is the Artistic Director of the St. Joseph Community Chorus. Stammers said the Chorus began in 1980 and is made up of volunteers who love to sing.

“People who love to sing all styles of music. We have students in high school and people in their 80s, so when you’re talking about a sampling of community, I think you really get the gamut,” Stammers said. “It’s anybody who loves to sing and can hopefully carry a tune, that’s also kind of an important thing.”

The first rehearsal, including a potluck and auditions, begins at 6 p.m. Monday on the stage at Potter Hall on Missouri Western State University’s campus. Rehearsal starts at 7 p.m.

According to Stammers the theme for the season is “Music All Our Days.”

“Our fall concert… is entitled, ‘An Unclouded Day.’ It’s kind of an American folk song and all of the songs kind of follow that theme of seeing things clearly,” Stammers said. “Not all of the songs are bright and happy but they all follow the theme of a revelation so I’m real excited about that.”

The first concert takes place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, at Missouri Western’s Fulkerson Center.
