Woman accused of taking keys and assaulting driver

ARROWOOD, CARMEN RENAE

A St. Joseph woman is accused of taking keys out of the ignition, assaulting the driver and stealing his vehicle.

Carmen Arrowood, 33 is charged in Buchanan County with a class-D felony of stealing.

According to court documents, Wednesday a man reported to police that his vehicle had been stolen by a woman he was giving a ride to. Police said the woman was later identified as Carmen Arrowood. Det. Doug Howard said the victim reported Arrowood had asked for a ride so she could see her daughter.

“When they got to 12th and Ellsworth Ave. Carmen told him to pull over and get out of the vehicle. (The man) stated he refused multiple times when Carmen took the keys out of the ignition and walked to the drivers side of the vehicle where she assaulted (him) by punching him five or six times in the head, strangling his neck two times and biting him,” Howard said.

Court documents stated the man told officers he attempted to fight back but was overpowered and Arrowood drove off in his 2008 Subaru.

Officers located the stolen vehicle Sunday while it was parked in the 900 block of S. 10th. Det. Howard said Arrowood and another person were inside of the vehicle.

“The defendant is known to be violent, known to abuse drugs, and is a known thief,” Det. Howard said in court documents.

Arrowood is being held on $10,000 bond. She’s due in court Tuesday for an arraignment.
